Survey Tool Programs and Uncertainty
Assign appropriate error models by depth interval before interpreting positional uncertainty.
Why the program matters
The survey tool program identifies which tool and error model applies over each measured-depth interval. Those assignments are used when positional uncertainty and anti-collision outputs are calculated.
Review the intervals
- Open your well's Survey & Magnetics settings.
- Inspect each From/To interval, including any changes from gyro to MWD.
- Choose an appropriate supported model or review any imported IPM assignments.
- Confirm magnetics and the tie-in reference, then save your changes.
When using imported tool models
Confirm the actual manufacturer/tool revision and error-model terms match the source tool. Unverified substitutions can significantly change EOU and Separation Factor even when the planned trajectory is unchanged.
